Lyle Weatherholt
Lyle was originally a Michigander having been born in Detroit Michigan in 1938. He became a devout New Mexican in 1958 after studying at MSU and migrating to Albuquerque. A twenty-year career at Sandia National Labs preceded a follow-on career in aviation. Lyle, a certified instrument flight instructor with commercial rating, earned his flying licenses through the GI Bill after serving in the US Army Security Agency during the early sixties. He served overseas in Korea and Taiwan.. Lyle and Joan (Jay) moved to Las Cruces in 1992 after a five-year residency at Elephant Butte, NM. While in Albuquerque they began their western art collection, first acquiring a large oil painting by Huburt Wackermann, a scratch board piece by Charlie Ewing and a bronze sculpture by Ken Payne. Lyle and Jay have been long-time supporters of Mesilla Valley Hospice and the La Posada Assisted Living Facility. Jay passed in July, 2024 and Lyle now resides in Picacho Hills. As time marches on they have elected to place much of their art collection in the hands of Mesilla Valley Hospice for the benefit of the work done there and their residents.
