"For the Love of Art Month" is an appreciation of art in Las Cruces that was started in 1998. Each February Artforms Artists Association of New Mexico takes the lead on this month-long celebration of creativity. This year local artists will conduct studio tours during the second, third, and fourth weekends of the month. The member art show will be held at Cruces Creatives, The Big Picture, and the Dona Ana Arts Council Feb 8-29. The Big Picture has extended their show to the month of March. Studio tours will run from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturdays and 12 pm to 4 pm on Sundays. Some artists will be placing their work in other locations in support of this event.

The Artists of Picacho Hills is a strong supporter of this event, and we have listed those that are participating. Some of our members are also showing work in the "Erotica Twenty Twenty" pop-up show at the In Effect Gallery, located at 3390 Apple Cross Place in Mesilla Park. The opening night is Valentine's Day, Friday, Feb 14, from 6-10 pm. The show will also be available for viewing on Saturday, Feb 15, and Sunday, Feb 16, from 2-4 pm. This show promises to be an exciting adjunct to the February For the Love of Art month traditional exhibits.

ONE DAY WATERCOLOR & WATERCOLOR PENCIL*WORKSHOP TO COINCIDE WITH

MARIE’S SOLO EXHIBIT AT DONA ANA ARTS COUNCIL GALLERY

Tuesday, September 17th, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

at the Dona Anna Arts Council Gallery,

1740 Calle De Mercado, Messilla, NM

Phone: 575-523-6403

Workshop Fee: $65.00

This Workshop is about using traditional watercolor techniques in combination with the use of watercolor pencils*. Watercolor pencils are water soluble, blendable, and can be used successfully as a drawing tool, an adjunct to a watercolor painting, and for making a finished painting. They are also easy to carry, with a brush or two, for painting while traveling. All in all they are a fun tool to have in the watermedia kit.

During this workshop I will be demonstrating a painting of a pretty pink water lily floating on a pond. In the demonstration painting I have used a variegated watercolor wash for the water and the lily pads. Watercolor pencils were used to paint the lily and the dark red edge of the pads. There is also a little surprise bling on the finished painting. I will have waterlily references for your use or you may have photos and sketches of your own that you might prefer to use.

*NOTE: If you have watercolor pencils bring them to the workshop, if you don’t have them the painting can be completed entirely with watercolor.
