Medium: Gourd Art
Wanda studied art history and art education at Miami University and Wright State University in Ohio. She studied drawing, painting, and woodcarving at Arizona State University. While living in Arizona, she taught art at the junior high level and sold her work in a local gallery.
In 2004, she started experimenting with gourds and fell in love with the medium. She enjoys working, and her garage is filled with projects in various stages of development. The thing she likes about gourds are the variety of techniques that can be used. It is said that anything that can be done on wood or paper can be done on a gourd. She ventured into encaustic painting with the idea of using it on gourds; however, hot wax on a curved surface is difficult to manage. She decided it was best to stick to flat surfaces with the hot wax.
Wanda also does some quilling. At times the garage temperature is uncomfortably warm and quilling can be done in air conditioned comfort.
