Mike Shalett move to Las Cruces in 2013 after living in Tennessee for 52 years. He grew up and went to school in Washington, DC. Mike's wife, Lori, is a jewelry designer and maker. They have two children and two grand children and two Scottish Terriers (who rule the house.)
After retiring in 1995, Mike became and serious photographer but in recent years (due to the influence of Jan Harrison), he was become interested in basket making, both round and flat reed and baskets made from use lariats. He has attended several workshops in Las Cruces.
