Before retiring in Las Cruces Larry and his wife Pat lived in California, where Larry was Vice President of a large food manufacturer. After moving to the southwest, Larry became interested in sculpture while taking a beginning ceramics course at NMSU and shortly after that, began taking lessons from a local artist. While working in clay was interesting, he wanted to explore new mediums and took on the task of learning how to weld and began to create metal sculptures. He learned to integrate the two forms, and now that is the focus of his work. The diverse culture of the southwest is often reflected in his work.
