Barbara, an original native of Gastonia, North Carolina, had an illustrious career in the health field before becoming an artist. She worked as a Dental Hygienist and went on to earn her Master’s in Allied Health Services from Rutgers University and a Doctorate in Psychology from California Coast University. In Arizona Barbara was the Senior Administrator at the Phoenix Children’s Hospital Foundation, where she was the first woman recipient of the Arizona Fundraiser of the Year.
Barbara and her husband David moved from Scottsdale to Las Cruces in 2006 where she took a community art class at the university. She discovered she had a natural affinity for watercolors and became obsessed with painting working in abstracts. She has attended workshops in Cloudcroft and studied under Wayne Huber, whom she has described as encouraging and kind. Barbara was the President of the New Mexico Watercolor Society for four terms, cumulative, for both state and local chapters. She is also the proud mom of three adult children and a partner in her husband's business, David Dean and Associates, Inc., a national marketing company for Cigna.
