What kind of frame should be selected?  It could be a frame that is gilded (gold, silver or metal leaf) natural wood or painted?

The question should be when to choose what type of frame.  Natural wood and frames painted to look like wood might be a good choice for rustic scenes also, pencil work would be good in a wooden ...

Many museum art pieces are matted in cream, antique white, or any neutral shade.  Colorful mats are out because they can be a distracter to a painting.
